The following is a timeline of events leading up to Cindy's death and the investigations that went along with them:
1. Cindy James and ex-husband are divorced.
2. (Four months later) Strange phone calls begin and Cindy reports incidents to the police.
3. Cindy’s friend, Agnes Woodcock, Cindy said bizarre notes began to appear on her doorstep.
4. Agnes drops by Cindy’s house to check on her, and finds Cindy with a nylon sock tied tightly around her
neck.
5. Cindy moved to a new house, painted her car, and changed her name.
6. Cindy hired a private investigator and the police continue investigating situations.
7. Private investigator stops over one night to check on her, and finds Cindy passed out with a note stuck through her hand with a paring knife.
8. Neal Hall covers one of the harassment reports for a story in the Vancouver Sun, a local newspaper; reports that the incidents are suspicious because no finger prints were even located at any of the crime scenes.
9. Police begin 24-hour surveillance on Cindy’s home (with up to 14 officers); incidents and reports stay at a standstill.
10.The surveillance stops; the incidents begin again.
11.Cindy’s basement is set on fire.
12. Cndy is admitted to a local psychiatric ward.
13. Released from ward by request of family; Cindy began telling them more about the incidents than she did to the police.
14.Police make it clear that they are going to discontinue investiagtion.
15. Cindy decides to continue it herself, and goes missing on May 25, 1989.
16. Her car is found in a neighborhood parking lot with all identification items under the car, as well as blood on the door handle.
17.Two weeks later, she is found dead on her front lawn.
